Yoga Etiquette

How to prepare for and enjoy the class.

  1. PREPARE YOUR YOGA KIT
You will need a non-porous yoga mat, a towel large enough to absorb your sweat and a bottle of water.
If you end up leaving a puddle after class, check to see if you need a new mat (no holes), and bring a larger towel or two towels next time.
Be sure to use the Shop-Vac to suck up any puddles you leave.
Wear light, athletic clothing, and be prepared to sweat.
Underwear, even men’s boxer briefs from Under Armour, are not appropriate to wear in class.

  2. ARRIVE ON TIME
Please be on your mat with everything you need before the teacher walks in to the room.
Leave yourself enough time to use the restroom when you get here.
For most students, this means arriving at the studio at least ten minutes before the class time.
The studio opens to the public 30 minutes before every scheduled class.

  3. STAY FOR THE DURATION OF THE CLASS
Out of respect for yourself, your peers and your teachers, please come to class when you can stay for the entire, therapeutic series.
Remain on your mat until after the teacher has left the room.
On the rare occasion that you must leave class early, be sure to tell your teacher when you sign in.
Wanting to be first in the shower line or have enough time to straighten your hair is not a good reason to leave early.
Work as hard to enjoy your final savasana as you do in each and every pose. It is an important part of the therapy and discipline of Bikram Yoga.

  4. SHOW RESPECT FOR YOURSELF AND OTHERS
Breathe quietly through your nose in class. This will help make your class more manageable and make it easier for others to hear the teacher.
Deposit Band-Aids and tissues directly in the trash after use. Please do not put them on the floor, or squirrel them away under your mat. This spreads germs.
Take two minutes to rinse in the shower. This means you’ll have to save deep conditioning, shaving and exfoliating for home showers.
Please save any conversations for the lobby.
Come to class sober.
One in five people is allergic to scented products. Please no perfumes, cologne or body sprays in class.
Do your best to be sure the yogis behind you can catch a glimpse of themselves in the mirror.
The studio closes 30 minutes after class ends. Please keep grooming routine under thirty minutes.
